Yurlov Crower Chicken
The Yurlov Crower is an old Russian Chicken breed, that was primarily selected and used for long crowing contests in Russia. The crow is of 7 – 9 seconds in length, which is not very long, but definitely in the long-crower class.
The Yurlov Crower chicken breed was developed in the second half of the 19th century by crossing Chinese meat-type chickens. Fighting cocks and other breeds are involved, with the Malay’s direct influence too.
The Yurlov Crower is a dual-purpose bird with a massive body volume, and good egg-laying traits. It has large wattles, red earlobes, bright-yellow legs, and comes in both single and rose combed varieties. Yurlov hens are fair layers of large cream-shelled eggs (150 – 160 eggs per year of weight 60 – 90 g per each).
Plumage colors for the Yurlov Crower include black-red, and birchen with variable lacing. The bird is also similar in appearance to the Turkish Denizli which is a supreme long-crower. But the Denizli differs in being slenderer, and having slate colored legs instead
