Yellow-Legged Tinamou
The Yellow-Legged Tinamou is a species of Tinamous that’s found in wooded and shrubby habitats in tropical and subtropical eastern Brazil. This superficially Quail-like bird has two subspecies, which are distributed across its finding range.
The Yellow-Legged tinamou has grey upperparts, barred black lower back and wings, rufous lower breast and whitish belly. It has also a blackish cap, buffy head stripe, and bright-yellow legs (hence comes the name).
The Yellow-Legged tinamou’s nest is usually located on the ground in dense brush or between raised root buttresses. The male incubates the eggs which may come from as many as 4 different females. Then he raises the hatchlings until they are ready to be on their own, usually for 2 – 3 weeks.
