Ukrainian Crested Chicken

The Ukrainian Crested is a decorative Chickens breed, which originated in Ukraine. It’s a dual-purpose chicken, that is characterized by the presence of a forelock or a crest on its head. The Ukrainian Crested rooster’s forelock is too luxuriant, so it loses its normal position and hangs on one side. While the hen’s forelock is very lush and has an oval outline.

Ukrainian Crested chickens are hardy fowls, with strong bodies, relatively small wattles, and red earlobes. They have single or rose combs, and bright-yellow legs. Ukrainian Crested chickens also come in different color-verities which include; colombian, black, and fawn.

Ukrainian Crested hens are good layers of creamy eggs (around 150 180 eggs per year of weight 55 g per each). They start laying when they are just 6 months old, and tend to go broody too. In addition to being a good utility bird, the Ukrainian Crested is raised for showy purposes as well.
