Stara Zagora Red Chicken
The Stara Zagora Red is a breed of Chickens, which got developed in the Stara Zangora region in Bulgaria. This chicken breed resulted from crossing local hens of various colors, with Rhode Island Red roosters. The Zagora’s red color became fully dominant after the second generation of the cross-breeding.
The Stara Zagora Red is a medium-sized fowl with bright red feathering, a broad straight back, and a full breast. It’s an early-maturing dual-purpose chicken breed, suited for both eggs and meat production. Stara Zagora Reds have single combs, red earlobes, and bright-yellow legs.
Stara hens usually start laying at almost 5.5 months, and produce plenty of brown eggs. They lay around (200 – 220 eggs per year of weight 55 – 60 g per each), but they rarely go broody.
