Ramelsloh Chicken

The Ramelsloh is a rare and old Chicken breed, that was developed in northern Germany in the 18th century. It takes its name from Ramelsloh (its place of origin), which is a small village near Hamburg.

The Ramelsloh is a medium-sized chicken, with dense and shiny beautiful plumage. It has white earlobes, slate-blue legs, and a relatively small single comb. The Ramelsloh is also a rustic chicken breed, which suits well in free-range rearing. It’s an active and alert bird, that can be tamed very easily too. Ramelsloh chickens are only bred in the buff and the white color-varieties.

Ramelsloh hens are good layers of creamy-white eggs (around 150 eggs per year of weight 50 – 60 g per each), and they occasionally go broody too. Ramelsloh chickens yield a reasonable amount of meat when slaughtered, which is famous for being light, delicate and tender. In the past, these birds were being butchered at two months old as Broiler chickens in Ramelsloh and the surrounding areas.
