German Sperber Chicken

The German Sperber (sperber literally means “sparrow hawks” in English) is a breed of Chickens from Germany. The bird got developed by crossing different chicken breeds including; Plymouth Rocks, Scots Greys, Bergische Schlotterkamms and black Minorcas.

The German Sperber is a nicely-sized dual-purpose chicken with a single comb, white earlobes, and whitish-yellow legs. It’s a lively and tame bird that yields meat of excellent quality. The German Sperber is only available in the cuckoo color-variety.

German Sperber hens are excellent layers of large white eggs (around 180 eggs per year that weighs 60 g per each). In some cases, exceptional hens will lay up to 230 eggs at the maximum, when given proper conditions of care and food. German Sperber hens rarely go broody, but when they do, they make great mothers. A bantam version is also available for this breed.
