Czech Gold Brindled Chicken

The Czech Gold Brindled, or the Bohemian Gold Speckled, is an old breed of Chickens, that originated in Bohemia in the Czech Republic. It’s a light dual-purpose bird, that has been bred in its country of origin for centuries, but it became critically endangered after the invasion of more productive imported chicken breeds.

The Czech Gold Brindled was available in many color-varieties in the past, but today it’s only seen in the gold brindled color-variety. Czech Gold cocks are a beautiful mixture of gold, red and black, while the hens are gold, with reddish speckles, and black streaks on their necks. These birds are hardy, very good foragers, and yield meat of a good flavor and excellent quality.

Czech Gold Brindled hens are good layers of creamy-white eggs (around 150 – 190 eggs per year of weight 60 g per each), and they have a tendency to broodiness too. A bantam version is also available for this breed. The Czech Gold Brindled chicken has a sturdy body, a single comb, red earlobes, and slate-blue legs.
