Burmese Bantam

The Burmese Bantam is an exceedingly rare breed of bantam Chickens from Myanmar. It’s a true bantam, with a single comb, red earlobes, and bright-yellow legs. The Burmese Bantam has also a crest, masses of foot feathers, and can be bearded or not. It’s almost exclusively white, as other color-varieties for this bird are even rarer.

The Burmese is a very quiet and friendly bird, which often becomes quite tame. It has exceptionally short legs like those of the Japanese Bantam, and it also possesses vulture hocks like those of the Sultan chicken breed. Burmese hens lay fair numbers of brown eggs, and are excellent broodies and become good mothers as well.

Burmese Bantams share some physical features with the Booted Bantam of the Netherlands. In fact, the Booted Bantam is one of the originators of the Burmese Bantam, as the true Burmese Bantam was almost extinct. And the modern Burmese Bantam is an approximation to the real one, which got developed by crossbreeding a rescued Burmese cockerel with other breeds such as; Booted Bantams, Polish bantams, and Sultans. Burmese Bantams are one of the showy chicken breeds, that need considerable attention to maintain their fabulous and beautiful appearance, by keeping them in a dry and clean place.
