Boffa Chicken

The Boffa is a breed of Chickens, which originated in the province of Padua, in Italy. It was developed in the second half of the 19th century by crossing the Polverara or the Padovana chicken breed with local chickens in the Padua countryside.

The Boffa is a dual-purpose chicken breed, which is raised for producing both meat and eggs. The bird combines many advantages such as; great hardiness, abundant meat of excellent quality, and a slight tendency to broodiness. Boffa chickens have single combs, red earlobes, small wattles which are covered by a beard, and bright-yellow legs.

The Boffa is an early-maturing chicken, as it reaches sexual maturity at 5 – 6 months of age. The hens lay around 150 rosy white eggs per year of weight 60 g per each. Many color-varieties existed in the past, but now the Boffa is almost available only in the tawny color-variety.
