Australian Langshan Chicken

The Australian Langshan, or the Australian Modern Langshan, is a breed of Chickens which got derived from the Chinese Croad Langshan, which it closely resembles. It’s a medium-sized black, blue or white bird, with an upright flat carriage (a distinguishing characteristic from its Chinese cousin which has a U-shaped back instead), relatively long legs, and medium-sized single comb and wattles.

The Australian Langshan is also characterized with its red earlobes, and the feathered outer toe of each foot. These birds are famous as outstanding backyard chickens, and with their showing abilities too. In addition to that, Australian Langshans mature early, have good feed to egg ratio, and well adapted to Australian climates.

Australian Langshan hens are good layers of brown eggs (200 – 220 eggs per year) and are known to go broody too. Though extremely popular and common in Australia, this chicken breed is not very known elsewhere. A bantam version is also available for this breed.
