American Game Chicken

The American Game is a breed of Chickens, that originated in the United States of America. It was developed over perhaps a century from European and Asian game chicken breeds. The American Game was traditionally bred for cockfighting; however, it is now becoming popular as a show bird, as cockfighting has been outlawed in America.

American Games are extremely cold and heat resistant chickens, which are capable of surviving independently in the wild. Feral populations for the bird do exist in various places, often after escaping or being set free by their owners. American Game bantams got developed too, which originated from the original large fowl. However, like Old English Game bantams they aren’t considered game birds, and have been cross-bred with other breeds to add feather length and kill gameness.

The American Game chicken may be confused with its close relative the Old English Game, but naturally differ in having more plumage. As they have larger tails, longer wings and a different body conformation. American hens are fair layers of small eggs, but they go broody easily and make superb mothers. These chickens have a lot of color-varieties which include; black-breasted red, wheaten, silver-duckwing, golden-duckwing, White and black. The American Game has a single or pea comb, red earlobes, small wattles and mostly slate-blue legs.
