Grey Peacock-Pheasant
The Grey Peacock-Pheasant or the Burmese Peacock-Pheasant is a Pheasant inhabits lowland and hill forests of Northeast India and Southeast Asia. It belongs to the Peacock-Pheasants’ family which consists of a group of pheasants that possess prominent round eye-shaped spots (ocelli) on their plumage. There are 3 recognized subspecies for the Grey Peacock-Pheasant, while an additional one is of unclear validity.
The The Grey Peacock-Pheasant is greyish brown with finely spotted green eye spots. It has an elongated bushy crest, bare pink or yellow facial skin, white throat, and grey bill and legs. Both sexes of the Grey The Grey Peacock-Pheasant are rather similar, but the female is smaller, darker and less ornamented than the male.
The breeding season of the Grey Peacock-Pheasant begins in March and may last till July. Females usually lay 2 eggs per clutch, which are incubated for around 21 days. The Grey Peacock-Pheasant is also the national bird of Myanmar.
